Lalita Vaswani is a Senior Associate in the Commercial Litigation, Restructuring and Insolvency Group of Lex Caribbean in Barbados.
Lalita was born in Barbados and received her primary and secondary school education on the island. From 2003 to 2006, she read law at the University of Warwick in England where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in law with honours. She then attended the internationally acclaimed London School of Economics and Political Science and was awarded a Master’s degree of laws with distinction in the field of International Competition law in 2007. Lalita was called to the Utter Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in 2008 and was later called to the Bar of Barbados in 2010.
Throughout her career, Lalita has played a pivotal role on legal advisory teams in various high profile restructuring and insolvency matters involving local, regional and international entities. Lalita also has a strong background in commercial and corporate litigation and advises on the enforcement of securities and competition law.
Lalita maintains close ties with her alma maters and is the international alumni representative of the University of Warwick in Barbados. She also works closely with fellow member of the Inner Temple Sir Dennis Byron, the President of the Caribbean Court of Justice in relation to the Caribbean Alumni of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.
Lalita also chairs the Youth Committee of the Preservation (Barbados) Foundation Trust whose patron is Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. This charity was established to raise funds to maintain the UNESCO world heritage sites situated in Barbados. Lalita is an accomplished amateur photographer. In 2014 she received a national award in portrait photography and her photographs are often featured in many local publications.
