Joanna M. Austin is a Senior Associate in the Corporate, Commercial & Finance and the International Business departments in the firm’s Barbados office. Joanna maintains a broad commercial practice advising on matters such as corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, insurance, immigration and work permit. A significant part of her existing practice focuses on finance, advising both borrowers and lenders in the energy, mining, shipping, hospitality, pharmaceutical and transport sectors on cross-border finance, secured lending, capital markets and securities matters.

In addition, Joanna advises on the formation, licensing, regulatory and compliance requirements of various entities including captive insurance companies, societies with restricted liability and entities focused on international business. She also advises companies and small businesses operating in the domestic market.

Joanna obtained her Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Wolverhampton, England. She subsequently completed Post Graduate Diplomas in law with De Montfort University and City Law School, London in England and was called to the Bar of England & Wales at Gray’s Inn in 2010. She subsequently attended the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad & Tobago and was awarded the Legal Education Certificate leading to her call to the Barbados Bar. Joanna has also completed courses in alternative dispute resolution, loan and security documentation and is a graduate of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada.
Joanna is currently a member of the Insurance Committee of the Global Barbados International Business Association which works with other industry stakeholders on promoting Barbados as a global insurance jurisdiction.
