Let's TalkSumayya Dupraj is an Associate in the Commercial Litigation department of Lex Caribbean’s Trinidad office.
Sumayya was awarded a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 2017 from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus and her Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 2019. She joined Lex Caribbean immediately after completing her LEC examinations and was admitted to the Trinidad & Tobago Bar in November 2019. During her tenure at both university and law school, Sumayya became passionate about advocacy and actively engaged in competitive mooting both at the international and local level. While at university, she participated in the Jessup Moot Court International Competition 2017. She also competed in the Hamel-Smith Appellate Mooting Competition in 2018 and in the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition 2019 while in law school. Sumayya also chaired the Moot Committees of the law student organisations at both institutions.
Since joining the firm, her practice focuses on civil and commercial/corporate litigation, commercial debt recovery, mortgagee actions and insolvency. Sumayya provides legal advice to both international and local clients, drafts procedural documents and appears in or instructs Counsel at the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago.
Sumayya is passionate about achieving client satisfaction and works assiduously to assist her clients in reaching a solution that best fits their needs.
In her spare time, Sumayya volunteers to coach and judge young mooters for internal moot try-outs and vigorously participates in charities. Her hobbies include lawn and table tennis, as well as spending time with family and friends.
