Your Next Move: The Recapitulation

When you hear the word entrepreneur, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Innovator? Business Owner? Risk-taker? Creator?

These are just a few words that may come to mind which encapsulate the meaning of an entrepreneur. By definition, an entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, namely a business, with considerable initiative and risk – but by nature, an entrepreneur pushes the boundaries of their comfort zone.

On March 18, 2016 the Entrepreneurial Business Unit at Lex Caribbean hosted their inaugural entrepreneurs’ breakfast seminar. The seminar, geared towards startup entrepreneurs, featured dedicated professionals who presented on topics of incorporation, structuring, litigation and intellectual property. The burgeoning cultural industries sector in Barbados was also addressed with a presentation on the recently enacted Cultural Industries Development Act and the benefits it offers to cultural entrepreneurs.

With an 8am start time, attendees arrived in droves at the Marriott Hotel as early as 7am. One could perceive that these entrepreneurs were eager to find out what this seminar had to offer. By all accounts, they were not disappointed. Through the use of feedback forms, attendees detailed that the speakers imparted their knowledge and experience in such a way that they were left inspired. Remarks on the delivery of the presentations were that they were well-thought out, informative and captivating.

The highlight of the seminar, without a doubt, would have been the question and answer session. The attendees had a chance to interact with the speakers and enquire about topics that piqued their interest. Unbeknownst to the attendees, and thanks to sponsor Capita Finance, attendees were furnished with gifts and prizes for their contribution. These prizes ranged from flash drives to bank accounts with Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union. One lucky attendee even won a brand new Samsung phone for their enthusiasm and unprecedented participation.

The attendance and interest of these entrepreneurs demonstrated their commitment to taking their respective businesses or prospective businesses to the next level.

Now that is the essence of a true entrepreneur!
